A Journey of Trees. - Present exhibition at www.acespacenewbury.com - Until September 2018
I aspire to make my work accessible to a wide audience and not just the art world. Painting is a visual art and I feel that it should not have to rely on wordy literary justification. However, I am aware that it can lead to a greater appreciation and insight for some people and in this frame is a brief account of influences for these paintings.
A Journey of Trees
Commissioned by Ace Space to provide large colourful paintings of trees.
The paintings took 5 months starting July 2012.
I was unaware where the journey would take me as I explored the theme of trees; however, I have had a slight obsession with trees from early childhood. My subject inspiration came easily, one naturally leading to the next. I made conscious decisions on how to begin the paintings working directly from nature. Developing the paintings further I allowed the response to be intuitive.
Every aspect of my life has influence on my work even though I am mostly unaware of it. However, while working on the two South Lake paintings, surprisingly, it took me back to a family camping holiday. I was standing next to Lake Garda, looking across the water, feeling slightly alone as I couldn’t talk to the Italian children.
I invite you to look at them with an open mind, let them take you on a journey.
